FullSizeRenderAfter carrying out a visitation on November 22 last year, the National Accreditation Board (BAN-PT) decides the accreditation score and rangking for undergraduate program of Regional & Town Planning (PWK) Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) is “A”. The decision is contained in Decree No. 004 / SK / BAN-PT / Akred / S / I / 2015 which came into force on January 9, 2015 to January 9 2020. The Department founded in 1998 was previously accredited “B”. With this status, PWK UB Department became one of the members of the Association of Schools of Planning Indonesia (ASPI) with “A” accreditation in addition to ITB, UGM, and Diponegoro University.

According to the Head of the PWK Department, Dr. Ir. Abdul Wahid Hasyim, MSP., They have prepared this accreditation process over the last year. Starting with input from Prof. Dr Ir. Mohammad Bisri, MS who was then serving as Dean of the FT, the Department is committed to improving the accreditation of B to A.

“The hard works was already started by the previous leaders of the department, we only pick up the threads” he said.

Wahid said, one of the things that became the added point for BAN-PT’s assessment is the increasing number of international cooperation at the department. This the international program begun by establishing communication with the campus ever visited by lecturers taking an abroad study, one of which is Kyoto University, doctoral education campus of Secretary of the Department PWK, Ismu Rini Dwi Ari, MT., Ph.D. Provision of this agreement results into accreditation points.

“Department also supports the educators to actively take part in seminars both nationally and internationally, coordinated by the PWK’s Operational Head. Mr. Johannes (Johannes Parlindungan Siregar, ST., MT.),” He added.

In addition, for the cooperation that has been formed the department will set up joint research team. Wahid added, existing collaborations also provide benefits to make it easy for lecturer who want to study abroad.

Meanwhile, a change in accreditation status is directly affecting the whole Civitas Academics. The one that is getting the direct influence are the alumni who applied for a job at the Ministry of Public Works (PU) in the City Spatial Planning. Ministry of Public Works Department requires that applicants come from the University with “A” accredited PWK department. A pride moment happened when alumni from PWK UB managed to set aside approximately 500 applicants from all over Indonesia and ranked first and fourth of the four applicants were accepted.


Not to forget, Wahid express gratitude both to colleagues in departments and FT-UBthat have provided physical and non-physical support that alleviate our spirit.
